CASE OVERVIEW 🚨 – The victim, a 74-year-old retired teacher, believed he was in a romantic relationship with a celebrity, only to be coerced into sending large sums of money to settle a non-existent legal issue. This scam, orchestrated by a New Jersey couple, escalated to the point where the victim, under immense pressure, took his own life. 📝 WHAT HAPPENED? 📝 – Between August and October 2023, the scammers posed as a famous actress and then as FBI agents, directing the victim to pay “fines” for a fabricated sexual harassment case. Despite the victim’s compliance, the scammers demanded more, leading to a tragic end. 🕵️♂️
Piscataway, New Jersey residents Chinagorom Onwumere, 34, and Salma Abdalkareem, 27, were charged with three counts each of financial exploitation of an elderly/vulnerable person and two counts each of theft and criminal impersonation. Additional charges are pending.
